What is St. Agatha's commitment to the community?

We are committed at St. Agatha to evangelization. Pope John Paul II has called the worldwide Church to a "new evangelization." The American bishops define evangelization as "bringing the Good News of Jesus into every human situation and seeking to convert individuals and society by the divine power of the Gospel itself."

We are to evangelize because the Lord Jesus commanded us to. He called us to "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)

Our goal at St. Agatha is to bring about such enthusiasm for the faith to the lives of the faithful that they in turn will desire to share their faith with others. Our hope is that we will not attract Catholics from other parishes, but that we will bring the Gospel to those who have never heard or never made a commitment of their live to Christ and His Church.

We pray that Christ may fill us with His Spirit that we might play a role in the marketplace to bring about change in our culture by living and promoting Gospel values and taking a stand for peace and justice for the poor and the marginalized.

This is a tall order, but how can we do anything else once we truly taste in our lives Christ's goodness, love and forgiveness? Only as we use all our gifts and talents together will we be able to evangelize in this spirit.
